Learning Guitar Should Follow Structure

Studying guitar must of course be both rewarding & fun. However it is vital that you plan your journey; that is, you establish what you actually want to learn & what you want to be able to do! But having a clear goal in place is only the start; you then need to plan steps that will help you achieve your goal!

I have been training & teaching Business Studies, ICT & Guitar, in university, college, schools, & both the private & public sectors since 1995 & I have learned a thing or two about setting clear aims & objectives, lesson plans etc that I want to pass onto you. Have a vision, then plan your steps...

Identify Your Aim

Aims could include:

  1. Learning to play the guitar
  2. Want to play a song
  3. To read & compose music
  4. To record a piece of music
  5. To play in a band
  6. To play for fun

So you must first identify YOUR Aim or Goal!

Next you need to set the objectives.

Identify Your Objectives

The objectives' include identifying what steps you must take to achieve your aim. Therefore an aim could have many objectives.

Experienced Guitar Lessons

Power Chords: Power chords are versatile & are often used in Rock & Blues music, where lead guitarists often switch between major scales (offering an upbeat or happy feel) to minor scales (offering a sad feel). Power chords are made up of just two notes. Click on the Power Chords link to learn all about them through practical application. You can learn every Power chord available to you right here on the guitar lessons for beginners web site!

(Note). Power Chords will particularly help both rhythm & lead guitar players who like to play Rock & Blues guitar styles.

Guitar Scales: This is the biggest & most powerful lesson you can study within the guitar lessons for beginners web site. This lesson is definitely for both rhythm & lead guitarists, as you will discover 12 essential scales & the chords that are formed from them that are used by professional guitarists throughout the world through application & playing along with exercises that create the unique mood & feel of each scale & you get the opportunity to play along with many backing tracks, both as a rhythm & lead guitarist!

Both sets of chords must share the same tone or root note & that’s it! The results will amaze you & all that hear you play. This lesson will take you step-by-step through the whole process; a must have in your toolkit, enjoy.

Pitch Axis: I highly recommend that you study all lessons up to this lesson before studying Pitch Axis as this topic involves using guitar chords that are not diatonic, (that is, they are not related or found in the same scale) but rather they share the same tonic, C note in our case. This is where your artistic talents really will come to life!

Free Guitar Tests (All Levels)
For You To Try

Guitar Tests: Here you will find guitar test questions based on the content of this site. Why not have a quick look at the guitar test questions then work the lessons before returning to try the test papers... Watch how you develop your knowledge & skills, it's great fun.

Guitar Tips

See how fun & easy teaching yourself to play guitar really is with the help of Guitar Secrets.

Did you know the reason why most beginner guitarists put learning guitar in the “too hard basket” is because they choose lessons without structure.

These beginner guitar lessons cover the basics and move into more intermediate topics in the correct order. Pick up your guitar, dust off the cobwebs and learn guitar today with Guitar Secret.

Learning beginner guitar is an amazing journey of discovery & a gift that you can share with others...

The guitar is a versatile instrument and can be used to play styles such as, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Indie, Country, Fusion, Metal, classical, Finger Picking & many more too!

Many guitarists learning beginner guitar are self taught, but this often leads to times of frustration through a lack of understanding of theory & creative ideas in particular.

I have been on my guitar journey for over 35 years & therefore want to share a few tips with you that I believe will help you succeed a lot easier!

Here are tips that I use personally & want to pass on to you whilst learning beginner guitar.

TIP #1
Use the best quality guitar you can. The better the quality, the easier it will be to learn to play guitar, & the better guitars attract better prices when sold. Cheap guitars will not stay in-tune & will be so much harder to play chords on.

TIP # 2
Take your time through each lesson until you fully understand & can apply the material... it is a marathon not a sprint!

TIP # 3
Move on through each lesson slowly & you will succeed. I suggest that you don’t jump from lesson to lesson… This material is structured & built on previous lessons. It should take you at least a year to learn all of the material found on this web site.

TIP # 4
Study the theory, try the tests & practice the exercises with the backing tracks as often as you can.

TIP # 5
Vary your practice don't over do just one topic, & use headphones when using an amp, keep in with your family & you won't fall out!

TIP # 6
Start to play along with other musicians as soon as you can; share tips, techniques & knowledge.

TIP # 7
Get yourself an effects pedal & go through the effects pedal lessons found on this site.

TIP # 8
Keep a journal, see the journal link on this site... it is good to keep a record of learning & creative ideas... I have lost all too many great musical ideas in the past! I don't anymore...

TIP # 9
Have fun, don't take studies too seriously, & you will succeed!
