You notice that the notes on the guitar fretboard are colour co-ordinated. For me this is the best way that I have found to learn how to get to grips with the multiple duplicate notes.

For instance how many C notes can be found across the entire guitar fretboard?

Here’s the 7 diatonic triads for C Mixolydian Mode:

C, Dm, Edim, F, Gm, Am, Bb,

Here’s the 7th diatonic chords for C Mixolydian Mode:

C7, Dm7, Em7b5, FM7, Gm7, Am7, BbM7,

Here’s the list of the 7 diatonic triads & their notes for C Mixolydian Mode:

C, Made up using - C E G

Dm, Made up using - D F A

Edim, Made up using - E G Bb

F, Made up using - F A C

Gm, Made up using - G Bb D

Am, Made up using - A C E

Bb, Made up using - Bb D F

Now notice that you have the following chord patterns: This chord pattern is used for all Mixolydian Modes:

(M m d M m m M).

Here’s a list of popular chord patterns used with the C Mixolydian Mode.

C, Bb, (Repeated play C Pedal Tone) – This mood will create a Bluesy feel

C, Bb, F,

Note: All of the above patterns are unique to the Mixolydian Mode.

Use Mixolydian Mode in Blues, Country, Rockabilly, & Rock.

Mixolydian Mode - The Bigger Picture

The bigger picture is that you have 7 notes in a C mixolydian mode. You can build many chords from each note of the scale.

Let's put this into action. Let's take the C mixolydian mode & find C shape chords that can be used in composition:

Let's just take the C note as the root note and add notes to it.
