Free Lead Guitar Backing Tracks

Music Maker Guitar Lessons

The backing tracks are looped so that you can play lead guitar solos for as long as you want.  Each backing track is set within a style that is typically associated with the mode or scale.  The full-colour guitar fretboard diagram displays all notes that can be played along with the lead guitar backing track.  It is important to note that each mode & scale must be studied over the entire guitar fretboard.

You simply press play then start playing the notes on the mode or scale below the play button.

To play lead guitar over the pitch axis backing track, you should learn the first 7 modes displayed below:

The, Ionain mode or major scale, the Dorian mode, the Phrygian mode, the Lydian mode, the Mixolydian mode, the Aeolian mode & the locrian mode.

Enjoy,

Paul Gronow - Music Maker Guitar Lessons.

C Pitch Axis in C.

Pitch Axis Chord Progressions in C.

The Pitch axis chord progression backing track is looped over 28 bars.
There are 4 bars for each of the 7 modes of the major scale.

C Ionain Mode = 4 bars with the focus chord CM7add11
C Dorian Mode = 4 bars with the focus chord Cm6
C Phrygian Mode = 4 bars with the focus chord Cm7b9
C Lydian Mode = 4 bars with the focus chord CMaj7add#11
C Mixolydian Mode = 4 bars with the focus chord C7 & C9
C Aeolian Mode = 4 bars with the focus chord Cm7addb13 or cm11b13
C Locrian Mode = 4 bars with the focus chords Cm7b5

How  To Use the backing tracks.

Pitch axis is an advanced chord progression theory, whereby you can switch the mood of the music by playing different modes or scales of which must all be in the same pitch, - in this case they are all in C.

You will find that each chord displayed below is unique to the mode as heard in the backing track.

C Ionian Mode or C Major Scale: C D E F G A B C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the CM7add11 chord.  The C Ionian mode is the only mode that has the B & F)

C Dorian Mode: C D Eb F G A Bb C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the Cm6 chord.  The C Dorian mode is the only mode that has the Eb & A)

C Phrygian Mode: C Db Eb F G Ab Bb C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the Cm7b9 chord.  The C Phrygian mode is the only mode that has the Db & G)

C Lydian Mode: C D E F# G A B C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the CMaj7add#11.  The C Lydian mode is the only mode that has the F#)

C Mixolydian Mode: C D E F G A Bb C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the C7 & C9.  The C Mixolydian mode is the only mode that has the E & Bb)

C Aeolian Mode or C Minor Scale: C D Eb F G Ab Bb C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the Cm7addb13 chord.  (Could also use Cm11b13.)

C Locrian Mode: C Db Eb F Gb Ab Bb C
(So here you'll find the focus is on the Cm7b5 chord.  The C Locian mode is the only mode that has the Gb)
