How To Create C Dorian Mode
The scale template used to create the dorian mode from the chromatic scale is T, S/T, T, T, T, ST, T.
Where T is Tone the distance of two frets & S/T is a distance of 1 fret.
So this is how we find the notes in the C dorian mode.

So we find that the C Dorian Mode has: C, D, Eb, F, G, A, Bb, C
Why Eb & not D# & why Bb & not A#?
Well, we must have at least one of each note in a scale or mode. Which means that we can not have D & D# or A & A#.

C Dorian Chord Structure
You notice that the notes on the guitar fretboard are colour co-ordinated. For me this is the best way that I have found to learn how to get to grips with the multiple duplicate notes.
